Starting personal training can feel like a big step, especially if it has been a while since you exercised, you are unsure where to begin, or busy gyms make you uncomfortable. The good news is that your first session is not an exam and you are not expected to arrive fit. It is simply the starting point for a plan that suits you.
At Stonemasons Fitness, I provide one-to-one personal training in Droitwich and Worcestershire with a straightforward, supportive approach. You can train at my private Droitwich gym, at home or outdoors, depending on what works best for you.
You do not need to “get fit first”
One of the most common reasons people delay contacting a personal trainer is the feeling that they should improve their fitness before they start. That is a bit like tidying the house before the cleaner arrives.
A personal trainer’s job is to meet you at your current level. Your starting point might be learning a few basic movements, rebuilding a routine after a long break or adding structure to training you already do. There is no need to compare yourself with anyone else.
Your programme should reflect your experience, goals, schedule and confidence. Progress can then be made at a pace that is challenging enough to be useful but realistic enough to maintain.
What happens at your free consultation?
The free consultation is a relaxed conversation, not a workout you need to prepare for. It gives us both a chance to decide whether the coaching and training options are right for you.
1. We talk about what you want to achieve
“Getting fit” means different things to different people. You may want to feel stronger, manage your weight, improve general fitness, move with more confidence or prepare for a particular event or sport.
We will discuss what matters to you and why. That helps turn a broad goal into practical steps. We can also talk about your weekly routine, previous exercise experience and anything that has made consistency difficult in the past.
You can be honest about concerns. If you dislike crowded gyms, feel nervous about certain exercises or have limited time, that information helps shape a better plan.
2. We establish a sensible starting point
Your first few sessions are about learning how you move and finding the right level of difficulty. You will not be pushed into an advanced workout just to make the session feel hard.
Technique, control and confidence come first. From there, exercises can be progressed gradually by adjusting the resistance, repetitions, range of movement or complexity. The aim is to build a programme you can develop over time rather than leave you so sore that you do not want to return.
If you have an injury, persistent pain or a health condition, mention it before training. Personal training does not replace medical care, and it may be appropriate to obtain guidance from your GP, physiotherapist or another qualified healthcare professional first.
3. We choose the right place to train
Different environments suit different people. The private Droitwich gym is a good option if you want dedicated one-to-one attention without the pressure of a busy public gym. Home training can remove travel and make sessions easier to fit around work or family. Outdoor sessions can add variety when the weather and your programme allow.
You can see the available personal training options before we speak, but you do not need to decide everything in advance. We can choose the setting that gives you the best chance of staying consistent.
4. Your plan is built around real life
An effective plan has to work outside the gym as well as during the session. Training every day is not necessary for most people, and an unrealistic schedule rarely lasts.
We will look at how often you can genuinely train, what equipment is available and how exercise fits around your other commitments. Depending on your goal, your plan may include resistance training, cardiovascular fitness, mobility, core work or boxing-based drills. Practical nutrition guidance and support between milestones can also form part of the overall approach.
The important part is consistency. A manageable plan completed regularly is more useful than a perfect plan that only lasts for two weeks.
5. Your first coached workout has a clear purpose
When you begin training, I will explain what each exercise is for, demonstrate it and help you perform it with good control. You can ask questions at any point. If something does not feel right, we can adjust the movement, load or exercise choice.
A useful first session should leave you understanding what you did and why. It also gives me information to refine the programme for future sessions. As you become stronger and more confident, the training can progress with you.

What should you bring?
Keep it simple:
• Comfortable clothes that allow you to move
• Supportive trainers
• Water
• Any relevant information about injuries, medication or medical advice
• Your questions and goals
You do not need expensive kit or specialist clothing. If you are unsure about anything, ask before the session.
What if you feel nervous?
Feeling nervous before starting is normal. You may be worried about being judged, not knowing the exercises or being unable to keep up. One-to-one coaching removes the need to keep pace with a class, and every exercise can be selected for your current ability.
You will work directly with me throughout. My role is to give you clear guidance, useful feedback and accountability—not to make you feel uncomfortable. The first win is often simply turning up and discovering that training is more manageable than expected.

Ready to take the first step?
You do not need to know the perfect goal, choose a complete programme or commit to a package before getting in touch. Start with a free, no-pressure conversation about where you are now and what you would like to change.
